Junior Group of Goodwill Holds Another Successful Auction

Nearly $64,000 Raised to Support Goodwill’s Mission

Monday, April 09, 2007

A Troy Smith autographed jersey for $400, a gourmet dinner prepared in your home for $500 or a ride on the Goodyear Blimp for $850. All of this adds up to a successful auction for the Junior Group of Goodwill. These items, along with many others were auctioned off at the Junior Group of Goodwill’s Annual Antique and Collectible Auction Patron Party on February 2 at Stambaugh Auditorium. The event, which included a live auction of new items, Chinese auction, silent auction, basket raffle, jewelry sale and 50/50 raffle, raised nearly $64,000. The money raised at the event helps support Goodwill’s mission of providing job training and employment services to those with disabilities and other barriers to employment.

This year’s auction sponsors were Home Savings and Loan Company, Allied Waste Services, Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield, Aim NationaLease and Packer Thomas. A portion of the proceeds from this year’s auction is being used to help subsidize the rising cost of the Annual Awards Banquet. In addition, funds raised by the auction will also be used to assist with operational and capital needs to keep Goodwill's facility operating efficiently.

Many local businesses generously donated items for the auction. The live auction featured over 75 items, including a chartered fishing trip, airline tickets, Ohio State items, autographed sports memorabilia, various sporting event tickets and several pieces of fine jewelry. Items were also available to bid on in the silent auction, or you could take a chance on an item in the Chinese auction or on a basket in the basket raffle.

For those who just like to shop, the jewelry sale continued its tradition of being a very popular event. All jewelry was sorted, washed, tagged and ready for sale at great prices. Over 3,500 pieces of jewelry were available to purchase.

Saturday’s auction featured hundreds of collectibles and antiques that were donated to Goodwill’s nine donation centers throughout the area. The Junior Group volunteers spend many hours all year long sorting and preparing these donations in anticipation for the auction. Over 500 items were auctioned off during the Saturday antiques and collectible auction.
Mark you calendars now. The dates for the 2008 auction are Friday, February 1 and Saturday, February 2.
