Goodwill Reviews Previous Year, Moves Forward with Election of New Board Members Goodwill recently finalized its Board of Trustees and prepared to move forward in 2008, after first reviewing how the agency performed in 2007. Vocational services, Amblyopia screening, social services to the visually impaired and Radio Reading services were provided to nearly 6,000 people in 2007. Radio Reading and Vocational Services both reported an increase in the number served in 2007.
Goodwill paid over $3,309,000 to its employees and clients in 2007. Combined, Goodwill and its employees paid over $914,000 in taxes to assist the local economy.
At the year-end, Goodwill employed 302 people in the five county areas of Mahoning, Trumbull, Columbiana, Lawrence and Mercer counties. Once again, over 75% of Goodwill’s direct labor was performed by people who are handicapped. Goodwill also assisted an additional 39 people with community employment.
Goodwill retail stores, janitorial services and other contract work with businesses support its employment programs and help to meet is mission of providing job training and employment services to people with disabilities and other barriers to employment in the community. Store sales exceeded $3.5 million in 2007, which included sales from the new Boardman store that was opened in August. Goodwill also spent over $360,000 on capital improvements over the last year. Most of that money was spent on roof repairs at Goodwill’s main facility, HVAC replacement, the Boardman store opening and water heaters. New Officers, Trustees Elected In other business, new trustees elected for two-year terms include Sharon Wathen, a retired CPA; Sara Brown-Clark, Clerk of Youngstown Municipal Courts; Eric Folsom, Compco; Jeff Houlette, National City Insurance; Irv Lev, retired; Anthony Sertick, Magistrate Youngstown Municipal Court. Elected for additional terms are current trustees Bob Fulton, Toby Mirto, Patrick Briceland, Jack Savage, Ron Shaklee, David Wolf, Janice JanJanin, Joe Fleming and Sue Stricklin.
New Board officers are Patrick Briceland, President; Toby Mirto, Vice President; Janice JanJanin, Treasurer; and Bob Fulton, Secretary.
In addition, C. Clark Hammitt was elected to the position of Board of Trustees Emeritus in recognition of his 35 years of service as a Board Member
