Goodwill Honors Employees and Community Supporters
With Goodwill’s primary focus to rehabilitate and teach job skills to those with social and physical disabilities, this gala event acknowledged employees for exceptional performance over the past year, along with recognizing the vital community support received. Jonathan Schoenike, president, Goodwill Board of Trustees, welcomed guests to the annual event. Reverend Lewis Macklin from Holy Trinity Missionary Baptist gave the invocation. Following the welcome from Schoenike, Michael W. McBride, executive director of Youngstown Area Goodwill Industries, explained to the audience that Goodwill is a lot of things to a lot of different people in our community. He reminded people that the Goodwill stores offer quality merchandise at reasonable prices to help raise money for Goodwill’s services, that Goodwill offers quality vocational rehabilitation services to clients who are disabled or have other barriers to employment and that Goodwill offers vision screening, Radio Reading and other services. McBride also added that Goodwill offers people a place where they can feel confident that their donations are safe and properly used. He emphasized that with over 300 people employed by Goodwill in five different counties, Goodwill offers employment and opportunities for people. McBride concluded by reminding the audience that Goodwill is fortunate to be in a generous community that cares. The annual Awards Banquet is an opportunity for Goodwill to show respect, gratitude and congratulations to people, businesses and organizations that have helped Goodwill to succeed, or to those who have accomplished success themselves. Goodwill honored its employees who have demonstrated outstanding achievement, and expressed its appreciation to businesses and members of the community who have contributed outstanding support to Goodwill's mission. In addition to the usual festivities, each Goodwill employee that attended the banquet received a special surprise. Thirteen vendors, whom Goodwill purchases retail merchandise from, donated samples of their products for every employee in attendance. Goodwill employees received items such as socks, leather belts, change purses, sunglasses, neck ties, hosiery, necklaces, cd’s and more. In addition, every person who attended the banquet received a Goodwill store gift certificate. Goodwill thanks the following companies for donating items: Buxton Inc., C&M Mills Inc., Dura Kleen Inc., Eros Hosiery, Garmentex International Inc., J’s Records and Tapes, PerCara Inc., P.S. Greeting Card, Rob Sales Inc., Shalom Inc., Sue-Lynn Textiles Inc., Traditions Jewelry Inc., and Vanguard Optical. [ return to home page ] |
