Goodwill Board Reviews 2008, Prepares to Move Forward in 2009 Goodwill’s Board of Trustees held its annual meeting recently to finalize its board, prepare for the upcoming year and review how the agency performed in 2008. Vocational services, Amblyopia screening, social services to the visually impaired and Radio Reading services were provided to over 6,000 people in 2008. Radio Reading and Vocational Services both reported an increase in the number served in 2008.
Goodwill paid over $3,391,000 to its employees and clients in 2008. Combined, Goodwill and its employees paid over $980,000 in taxes to assist the local economy.
At the year-end, Goodwill employed 274 people in the five county areas of Mahoning, Trumbull, Columbiana, Lawrence and Mercer counties. Once again, over 75% of Goodwill’s direct labor was performed by people who are handicapped. Goodwill also assisted an additional 39 people with community employment.
Goodwill retail stores, janitorial services and other contract work with businesses support its employment programs and help to meet is mission of providing job training and employment services to people with disabilities and other barriers to employment in the community. Store sales exceeded $3.5 million in 2008.
Goodwill also spent over $87,000 on capital improvements over the last year. Money was spent on new laundry equipment, bailing equipment and a towmotor, all of which assist Goodwill to operate effectively and efficiently.
New Officers, Trustees Elected In other business, new trustees elected for two-year terms include Cor Kester, retired; Mark Zeidenstein, L. Calvin Jones; Jim Crelin, retired; Jim Blomstrom, Harrington, Hoppe & Mitchell, LTD.
Elected for additional terms are current trustees Bob Fulton, Toby Mirto, John Getchey, Rick Baker, Mark Gasser, Paul McFadden, Jeff Moliterno and Lisa Baker. New Board officers are Toby Mirto, President; Janice JanJanin, Vice President; Sharon Wathen, Treasurer; and Bob Fulton, Secretary.
