Sunday, October 25, 2009

Youngstown Area Goodwill Industries recently received a $10,000 grant from the Kennedy Family Foundation, a component fund of The Community Foundation of the Mahoning Valley, to assist with capital needs. The money will be used to assist with expansion of Goodwill’s retail operations.

The primary goal for the expansion of Goodwill’s retail operations is to increase revenue to help support and further Goodwill’s mission to provide job training and employment opportunities to people with disabilities and other barriers to employment. An expanded retail program allows Goodwill to create employment opportunities while also providing needed funding for its programs.

Goodwill is currently considering several potential new store sites. Plans are to make a final site selection soon with a projected spring opening.

Last year, store sale exceeded $3.5 millions, which was more than half of Goodwill's total revenue. Additionally, Goodwill employed 274 people in the five county areas of mahoning, Trumbull, Columbiana, Lawrence and Mercer counties.
