 Looking for a Way to Recycle that Old Computer? Youngstown Area Goodwill Industries Joins Dell for Reconnect Computer Recycling Program Goodwill Industries International and Dell have expanded Reconnect, a free drop-off program for consumers who want to responsibly recycle any brand of unwanted computer or accessories, to include Youngstown Area Goodwill Industries. The program has added 445 more Reconnect donation sites to their collection network, bringing the number of Goodwill stores participating in Reconnect to more than 1,900 nationwide. The five-year-old reconnect program has kept more than 96 million pounds of e-waste out of landfills and provided around 250 green jobs.
The goal of the program is to offer consumers a free, convenient and responsible way to recycle used computers and computer equipment. While computers are safe to use, they do contain some environmentally sensitive materials. These materials can be safely removed or recycled, but only if the computers are kept out of landfills in the first place. Reconnect provides an environmentally responsible solution for computer recycling. 
Consumers can drop off any brand of used equipment at participating Goodwill donation centers and request a donation receipt for tax purposes. The donor is responsible for removing data from their hard drives. Neither Goodwill nor Dell is liable for data removal or protection. The items are then resold and devices in need of repair are either refurbished or broken down into parts to be recycled by Dell partners at locations worldwide. The revenue from the recycled computer equipment supports Goodwill’s job training and employment program. The Reconnect program is also a great way for schools or businesses to recycle their computers as well.
