Auction Gala Party Draws Crowd Despite Weather Snowfall Causes Saturday Antique and Collectible Auction to be Postponed
The heavy snowfall didn’t stop people from coming out to Stambaugh Auditorium on Friday, February 5 for the Gala Party portion of the two-day Junior Group of Goodwill Auction; however it did force Goodwill to postpone the Saturday Antique and Collectible Auction. Over 600 people turned out for the Friday evening event which featured a Live auction, a silent auction, a Chinese auction, a basket raffle and the popular jewelry sale. As the snow came down all evening, patrons stayed around to enjoy hors d’oeuvres from AngeNetta’s, shop for jewelry and bid on items. The Live auction featured over 65 items donated from area businesses such as airline tickets, Disney park passes, jewelry, autographed sports memorabilia, a gold coin, a Nanette Lepore Designer coat, several barstools with collegiate and professional sports team logos and many other items. Sponsors for the auction included Home Savings Charitable Foundation, Aim NationaLease, Hill, Barth & King, Gasser Chair Co., Yurchyk & Davis CPA’s, Central Payment Corp. and Akron Children’s Hospital-Mahoning Valley. The proceeds from the auction are used to help meet Goodwill’s operational and capital needs. Funds come to Goodwill at a critical time, following the harsh winter months when sales and donations are typically low. The Saturday Antique and Collectible Auction, which was postponed, took place on Saturday, March 20 at George Roman’s Western Reserve Auction Center. Hundreds of antiques and collectibles such as musical instruments, vintage toys, furniture, glassware, dolls and vintage clothing were auctioned off.
